The 病人 and 家庭 Advisory Board (PFAB) partners community members, 病人, and families with members of the healthcare team to guide how to improve the patient and family experience. Through their unique perspectives, our advisors help us ensure that every patient who comes to our facilities experiences high-quality care.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the time commitment?
Most members commit 2–3 hours per month between a monthly meeting, attendance at special committees, 特殊项目. The Board Chair generally commits to 2–6 hours per month as this position has additional duties such as setting agendas and working with our leadership team. Terms range from 2–3 years. The PFAB meets on the first Tuesday of every month at 12:30 pm.
What is the onboarding process?
Successful applicants will onboard through the same process as our volunteers. This process includes, but is not limited to:
- Pass a background check and drug screen.
- Pass a tuberculosis (TB) skin test administered through our Employee Health department.
- Present proof of influenza vaccination annually (the hospital typically offers a free flu vaccine to our volunteers) and proof of COVID vaccination.
What is the Board Chair responsible for?
The Board Chair will set agendas, 主持会议, and work closely with the UP Health System – Marquette leadership team. 最优, the Board Chair would have experience with running meetings, excellent communication skills, and be able to work effectively within a team as a leader.
What is a Board Member responsible for?
A Board Member attends monthly meetings, is willing to share their experience with the intent of utilizing the information to improve service, may participate in special committees focused on service and quality, and may engage in particular activities that help us determine the quality of our services.
Board Members participate in the purposeful discussion surrounding the patient experience opportunities that have been presented to the PFAB for meaningful feedback. Board Members are also allowed to share their suggestions for improvement.
The PFAB does not explore operational aspects of the hospital such as finance and contract labor. Data and updates regarding patient quality, 安全, and experience are presented to the PFAB regularly. One Board Member also serves on the 病人 Safety and Clinical Quality Committee.
